Best Accommodation Award

Wow. Jade Court Motor Lodge has won an award from Bookit, the accommodation section of TradeMe. This award is such a thrill to win – best accommodation in West Coast Region 2011 “ and is based on the highest number of positive reviews received.

More Upgrades

Other exciting news for us and our guests is the completion of our refit of queen beds throughout the complex. New bedspreads in all rooms, and new carpet is being rolled out across our units. Jade Court Motor Lodge is now offering an even higher standard of comfort and relaxation. New chairs are also on their way for the one bedroom units. Things are cooling down a little with autumn but accommodation in Hokitika at Jade Court is as cosy as ever. A fabulous event for our district is the first AgFest West Coast being held in July, 13/14th. This is to showcase the importance of agriculture here on the Coast. Another exciting happening is the biennial Scooter Safari on the 26th May which raises money for Cancer Research by riding small scooters from Christchurch to Hokitika. No mean feat in the cold over our Southern Alps. We are fortunate to be an accommodation provider for them while in Hokitika.

Talking of relaxation

Talking of relaxation reminds me that guests have certainly been enjoying our friendly cats and the little fox terrier, Mac. Throwing a stick for Mac to chase is a favourite occupation for lots of our guests. They get tired and stop before the dog does! Being able to play with our pets is great for those who have left their own at home.

Hokitika hosts an impressive range of cafes and restaurants catering to all tastes. Relax in the sun with your coffee or let yourself be lulled into relaxation by the warm West Coast rain – nourishment for the lush green rainforests.

Jade & Glass

Hokitika is renowned for its Jade jewellery and sculpture and its hand-blown glass. These craftsmen can be viewed working during opening hours Monday to Friday. Whether its Jade carving or glass blowing, both are fascinating to watch.

Glow Worms

Walk a little way into our Glow Worm Dell right on the edge of Hokitika township and marvel at these wonderful little creatures.

Museums

Visit our West Coast Historical Museum and then follow the Hokitika Heritage Trail ( Walkway ) or the Hokitika Heritage Walk around the township and Esplanade.

Sunsets

Watch the sun disappear below the horizon while the sea refreshes your spirit. Spend some time at the Sunset Point Lookout where the river meets the sea and on a clear day see Mt Cook in the distance.
